BPW Collectors Corner: July
One piece will be from our extensive archive spanning over 40 years of printmaking in Northern Ireland and another from a current member artist. This month, our archive pick is 'An Ceo Draiochta' by painter and master printmaker Barbara Rae and our pick from the membership is 'Untitled (Red Dresses)' by Anushiya Sundaralingam.
Dr Barbara Rae CBE, RA, RSA, HRE, HRWS, RGI FRCA, FRSE, HFRIAS, Royal Academician painter and master printmaker, is recognised internationally as an outstanding colourist. Recipient of numerous awards, scholarships, and honorary degrees, her work is exhibited in national museums, and public and private collections the world over. Solo exhibitions include Edinburgh during the International Festival of Arts, to New York, from Dublin to Oslo, from London to Chicago to Taos, New Mexico, and to Mexico itself. In subject matter Rae's studies are of a socio-political nature, traces of human existence and artefacts weathered by time and fortune. The selected print was produced by Rae during her residency at BPW.
Anushiya Sundaralingam, ARUA
Anushiya moved from Sri-Lanka to the United Kingdom in 1989, she studied Fine & Applied Arts in Belfast and since then has exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions, internationally and throughout Ireland. Anushiya has received many commissions from a variety of institutions and her work is represented in numerous public and private collections. She enjoys working with various types of media - oil, encaustic, printmaking, sculpture, producing new and innovative works. Her work is influenced by her dual nationality, drawing on memories of her native land, Sri Lanka, and her present life in Northern Ireland.
An original fine-art print is a work that an artist has conceived to be a print – they are not seeking to reproduce an image that already exists in another medium. Because prints are produced in editions, the price point is usually lower than that of other original artforms, making them a great starting point for art ownership. BPW is a member of Own Art and can offer individuals interest free finance to spread the cost of your purchase over 10 months.
If you are interested in either of these wonderful pieces please contact BPW staff if you would like to view these or other works from our studio in person. Remote payment, Own Art finance and delivery options are also available, more details on enquiry.
