  • BPW Artist Pilar Morales screenprinting the edition in the Studio
  • Artist Peter Strain applies calligraphy ink to a fresh screen print...

The MAC have commissioned Belfast Print Workshop to create a beautiful limited edition silk screenprint.

Each of the 100 limited-edition  have been hand-pulled through a silk mesh on to purpose-made deckled paper. The edition is signed and numbered on the back, and the image uniquely finished by artist Peter Strain. The use of the embossed seal reflects the quality of the finished product, which has met the high standards of the Belfast Print Workshop editioning service.

I draw, I do will run at The Mac from 19th August until 16th October. It is the first significant presentation of Hockney’s work in Ireland. The exhibition focuses on the artist’s formative years at Bradford Regional College of Art in the 1950s and how the training and experimentation pursued there stayed with him and was further drawn on throughout his career. Works on display include rarely seen anatomical and observational drawings, early graphite portraits as well as the print series Rakes Progress (1961-63): a semi-autobiographical story about Hockney, the ‘rake’, and the down and outs he met in New York in the early 1960s.

The Exhibition is curated in partnership with Jill Iredale, Curator of Fine Art at Bradford Museums and Galleries.
