Monoprinting using Viscosity with Josephine McCormick

Weekend Workshop; March 23rd & 24th

This is a unique method of making monoprints were different viscosities of coloured ink repeal one another, so you can utilise this property to produce a multi-coloured monoprint which has the advantage of no muddy overlap of colours. Using painting and printmaking techniques this course will introduce you to the possibilities of this exciting process. Learn how to create your own unique monoprints from simple drawings or images. Experiment using different mark-making techniques onto Perspex surfaces then transfer your images onto paper using a press. This is a colourful and fun course that is suitable for complete beginners or artists who want to try something new, come with an image which could be a sketch, magazine clipping or photograph to change it into a unique print.

Using different viscosities of printing ink was developed in Paris by Stanley William Hayter at the Atelier Contrepoint. Josephine learnt this technique while undertaking a residency at the same Atelier in Paris under the tutorage of the current director Hector Saunier. It is a magical way to produce a print.
