Intro to Print with Josephine McCormick
This course will introduce you to some of the processes you can access at Belfast Print Workshop and give you the basic skills to continue using and developing them after the course. Over the 6 weeks, you will learn each of the following processes in a supportive environment with all equipment and materials provided.
- Monoprinting - using relief and intaglio printing inks you will produce one-off multicolour prints, working with paper stencils and rollers.
- Drypoint - working directly onto a printing plate you will use various mark-making tools and inks to produce an image
- Linocut - Using specialist cutting tools you will be shown how to safely cut lino and print using relief inks, rollers, presses, barens and burnishers.
- Collograph - you will use mixed media to create a 'collage image', on a textured plate that will be printed using our press.
The longer length of this course will also allow for experimenting with combining techniques, layering prints as well as using chine-collé and gradients as methods to introduce colour.
This course is suitable for complete beginners or people who have done some printmaking before but want a refresher. Class tutor and long-standing BPW member, Jospehine McCormick will guide you through each process in a step-by-step way. All the processes lend themselves well to simple image making using pattern as well as representational images, so don’t be put off if you don’t feel confident with drawing.
