Matthew graduated from the Ulster University in 2016 with a BA in Fine Art, specialising in Printmaking. He works with a variety of printing techniques including, relief, intaglio, etching, screen printing and collagraph.
‘My work concerns itself with how the viewer, the subject, perceives and experiences objects in space. The subject is an observer, and the object is a thing observed. I use light, colour and transparency as material; often conceived within site-specific installations exploring relationships between Subject, Object and Space. The works contain ‘non-specific’ objects in which the viewer gives meaning - through their perceptual experience in time, and in space. The Subject, as an active engager with the work becomes an intrinsic part of it; and this is central to the context of the work.’
