Open Studio Events
If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about printmaking - how it works, what’s involved, the range of techniques and effects you can achieve (which are pretty much endless by the way), then we’ve got you covered with not one, not two but THREE open studio opportunities this autumn which will let you see what’s behind the scenes, or more accurately, what goes on ‘behind the page’ to create an original, handmade print in our workshop
European Heritage Open Days NI - September 14th 10am - 4pm`
Printmaking is a wonderful example of living heritage - it’s foundations have remained the same for hundreds of years but it’s still a thriving contemporary art form. Located in the city’s vibrant Cathedral Quarter, Belfast Print Workshop is the longest established space in Northern Ireland where professional printmakers can share facilities, materials and ideas with each other to express their art. Hidden in the top floor of the Cotton Court building, out atelier-style studio is home to more than 60 artists. Visit on this open studio event to meet them, browse our collection of art-works and watch printmaking in action on the workshop’s heritage presses. There will be tours, talks and demonstrations scheduled thought-out the day.
*Lots of interesting spaces and places are open over the weekend across Northern Ireland so make sure to check out the whole programme
‘Get Your Print On!’ for Culture DAY - September 21st, 11am - 4pm
For the very first time BPW and Cotton Court will NOT be open for Culture Night but fear not, we'll be getting our beauty sleep* in order to bring you a fun-filled, have-a-go, hands-on Culture DAY. This will be a family-friendly event and our studio artists will be about to demonstrate various techniques in linocut, screenprint, monoprint and more. We will also help YOU to create a small printed keepsake of your own to take home if your interested in that sort of thing.
*We say beauty sleep now but there’s so many great events in towm that might be difficult! See everything that’s happening for Culture Night and Culture Day on their website.
Belfast Open Studios - Saturday October 19th, 11am - 4pm
Artist Open Studios returns for its sixth annual insight into the tremendous creative activity that is going on all around us, all of the time. Over 250 professional artists are to be found hard at work behind the (usually) closed doors of various Belfast studios. They produce work that is seen and celebrated in galleries around the world and make our lives richer through their investigation and experimentation. Belfast Open Studios is an invitation to meet the artists, explore their workplaces and get a glimpse of their creative processes in action. At BPW our artist-members will be in-situ working on various projects from lino to litho, screen print and everything in between. We'll be open form 11am - 4pm with the kettle on, feel free to drop in, have a chat and a nosy to find out more.
