Untitled (James O'Kane)
This print has a bit of the soul of Ireland in it I think... As foreign resident here, I see in it some essence of the typical Irish streets seen in towns and villages across the country. The construction of low buildings with small windows and the beautiful traditional lettering on the store fronts and bar signs are some of the unique features that caught my eye when I arrived here, definitely a characteristic of Irish culture. The mark making suggests a skilled draughtsman and it was probably made form a sketch done with chinese ink and interesting brush strokes. The simplicity of the composition and colour scheme makes this print seem closer to a traditional printmaking approach despite it being a modern screenprint.
