Expanded Linocut

JOIN ARTIST AND BPW MEMBER JONATHAN BRENNAN ON THIS 4 WEEK COURSE TEACHING ADVANCED LINOCUT PRINT

Linocut is quick to learn and with little if any specialist equipment needed. It's a wonderful medium in itself, but also an entry point for many into the world of fine art printmaking.

This course is a new course developed by multi-disciplinary artist Jonathan Brennan. It will incorporate elements from his ‘Introduction to Linocut’ and ‘Colour Linocut’ courses as well as some new techniques like lino etching.

Over the course of the four sessions, participants will have a refresh of the basics, including learning about choosing images suitable for linocut, working in negative and reverse, transferring images and how to carve, ink and print images using a baren or spoon as well as the workshop’s relief press. They will then build on this foundation by adding colour to prints using a variety of methods including flat colour and gradients using uncarved lino, chine collé (adding colour using cut or torn paper), and hand-tinting. We also learn about using stencils and natural material, e.g. leaves, to create a monoprints using uncarved lino and experiment with lino etching - which means embracing the unexpected!

The course runs on four consecutive Wednesday evenings starting on Wednesday 14th October 6 - 9pm
