Hill of Stone by Eamonn McCrory

It was a time when the seas were warming and every single day the rain fell heavier than before. The dog still got a walk despite the downpours. Sometimes twice a day. They usually went up along the road to Sliabh na Cloiche. In previous times the land here was sacred but now people came out from the city to dump rubbish all along the verges. This annoyed the man, but nevertheless he liked to get outside for a walk. He would often see foxes and sometimes a hare. He once thought he had glimpsed a barn owl at dusk but he couldn’t be certain. There were always crows about - no mistake about that; rooks, magpies, jackdaws, hooded crows – sometimes ravens and jays. There seemed to be more birds about that day though and he imagined that they were following him. He remembered Hitchcock’s film ‘The Birds’. He sat down on the damp ground to sketch the line of trees where the birds nested. Hooded crows lifted from their nests and started to mob a buzzard and then flew low to mob the dog. After a while he finished his sketch and stretched out on the ground to rest. He watched the clouds passing overhead and he began to dose. He fell sound asleep to the sound of crows cawing. Time passed. The earth aged and ancient passageways reopened from under every hill. The Tuath Dé rose up, the seas cooled, the rain stopped and for a time balance was restored.

Eamonn McCrory's upcoming print exhibition is a tribute to the ever-changing beauty of our cherished landscapes. Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of Eamonn McCrory's prints.

Join us on Thursday, 2nd November 2023, from 6 to 9 pm, as we open the doors to a realm where prints mirror the stories of a land once sacred, now tussling with the encroachments of urban life. McCrory's prints echo the whispers of ancient passageways and the harmony of a balanced ecosystem.

Let the prints lead you through the lush narratives of Northern Ireland's rugged terrains, where the symphony of rain and the call of birds form the backdrop to everyday life. This exhibition, from 2nd to 27th November 2023, is an ode to the delicate equilibrium that lies at the heart of our shared connection with the natural world.

Made possible thanks to National Lottery players and money raised for good causes.
